Solution

The fundamental frequency of a closed pipe is the first harmonic, while the first overtone of an open pipe is the second harmonic.

The frequency of a wave is inversely proportional to its wavelength. In a closed pipe, the length of the pipe is equal to half the wavelength of the fundamental frequency (first harmonic). In an open pipe, the length of the pipe is equal to the wavelength of the first overtone (second harmonic).

Therefore, if the fundamental frequency of a closed pipe is equal to the first overtone frequency of an open pipe, their wavelengths (and thus the lengths of the pipes) are also equal.

So, if the length of the open pipe is 60 cm, the length of the closed pipe will also be 60 cm.
