Findings showed different factors that influence import performance and these include economic stability significantly influences import performance in the automotive industry, government policies and regulations have a significant impact on import performance, market demand and consumer preferences play a crucial role in import performance, exchange rate fluctuations greatly affect the import performance of automotive products, availability of skilled labour directly impacts the efficiency of import performance and the quality of infrastructure and logistics significantly influences import. Findings revealed different challenges encountered by Uganda’s automotive industry such as inadequate infrastructure poses a significant challenge to the automotive industry, high import tariffs and taxes are major barriers to the growth of Uganda's automotive sector, insufficient skilled labour contributes to operational challenges in the automotive industry, inconsistent government policies and regulations create uncertainty for automotive businesses, limited access to financing and credit facilities hinders the growth of the automotive industry and poor market demand and consumer purchasing power are.
