Solution

Before wiping the device from Intune, you need to select the "Retain enrollment state and user account" option. This option allows you to preserve the user data on the laptop. Here are the steps:

  1. Sign in to the Microsoft Endpoint Manager admin center.
  2. Select Devices > All devices.
  3. From the list of devices you manage, select the lost laptop.
  4. In the pane that appears for the device, select the ... (more) menu at the top of the pane.
  5. Select Wipe.
  6. In the Wipe pane, select the "Retain enrollment state and user account" checkbox.
  7. Select Wipe to confirm.

Please note that this action will only preserve the user data if the device is enrolled in Intune and the user has signed in to the device with their Azure AD account.
