Solution

The maximum torque (τ) on a current-carrying coil in a magnetic field is given by the formula:

τ = n * B * A * I * sinθ

where: n = number of turns in the coil = 100 B = magnetic field strength = 10 T A = area of the coil = 500 x 10^-4 m^2 I = current in the coil = 2 A θ = angle between the normal to the coil and the magnetic field. For maximum torque, this angle is 90 degrees, so sinθ = 1.

Substituting these values into the formula gives:

τ = 100 * 10 * (500 x 10^-4) * 2 * 1 τ = 1000 Nm

So, the maximum torque on the coil is 1000 Nm.
