In simpler terms, if a chemical system at equilibrium experiences a change in concentration, temperature, volume, or partial pressure, then the equilibrium shifts to counteract the imposed change and a new equilibrium is established.

- Consider a system at equilibrium where the forward and reverse reactions are happening at the same rate.
- If we disturb the equilibrium by changing the conditions (like concentration, temperature, volume, or pressure), the system will respond to this change.
- The system will try to counteract the change. For example, if we increase the concentration of reactants, the system will try to consume them by shifting the equilibrium to the right to produce more products.
- If we decrease the concentration of reactants or increase the concentration of products, the system will try to produce more reactants
