Solution

To find the percentage of employees from each department using a pivot table in Excel, follow these steps:

  1. Open your Excel workbook and navigate to the sheet named "Pivot".

  2. Click on an empty cell, preferably B2, and then click on the "Insert" tab from the ribbon at the top of Excel.

  3. From the Insert tab, click on the "PivotTable" button. This will open a new dialog box.

  4. In the "Create PivotTable" dialog box, select the range of your data (which includes all the employees and their departments) and ensure that the "New Worksheet" option is selected, then click "OK". This will create a new PivotTable in a new worksheet.

  5. In the PivotTable Field List, drag the "Department" field to the "Rows" area and also drag the "Employee" field to the "Values" area.

  6. By default, Excel will sum the "Employee" field. To change this to a count, click on the drop-down arrow next to "Sum of Employee", select "Value Field Settings", and then select "Count". Click "OK".

  7. To find the percentage of employees from each department, you need to change the count to a percentage. Click on the drop-down arrow next to "Count of Employee", select "Value Field Settings", and then select "% of Grand Total". Click "OK".

  8. The PivotTable will now display the percentage of employees from each department.

Remember to save your work.
