Important/significant fossils of Homo habilis

Homo habilis is an early human species that lived between 2.1 and 1.5 million years ago. Here are some of the most significant fossils of Homo habilis:

1. Olduvai Hominid 7 (OH 7): Discovered by Louis Leakey at Olduvai Gorge in Tanzania in 1960, this is the type specimen for Homo habilis. It consists of a lower jaw and parts of a braincase and hand. The hand bones suggested that this early human was capable of precise manipulation, leading to the species name "habilis," meaning "handy man."

2. KNM-ER 1813: This almost complete skull was found at Koobi Fora, Kenya, in 1973. It is smaller and more gracile than most other H. habilis specimens, leading some researchers to suggest it belongs to a different species.

3. KNM-ER 15000: Known as "Nariokotome Boy" or "Turkana Boy," this is the most complete early human skeleton ever found. Although it is often attributed to Homo erectus, some researchers believe it may belong to Homo habilis.

4. OH 24: Known as "Twiggy," this skull was found at Olduvai Gorge in 1968. It is heavily distorted due to crushing, but it provides valuable information about the size and shape of the H. habilis brain.

5. OH 8: This foot was found at Olduvai Gorge in 1960. It shows that H. habilis had a human-like foot and was fully bipedal.
