Solution

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Approach the client calmly and explain the situation to them. Assure them that you are there to help them evacuate safely.

  2. Position the wheelchair next to the dining chair, making sure the brakes are on to prevent it from moving.

  3. Ask the client to slowly stand up from the dining chair with your assistance. Make sure to support them in a way that is safe for both of you. You can offer your arm for support or stand close to them to provide stability.

  4. Once they are standing, ask them to slowly turn and sit down on the wheelchair. Be ready to provide support if they seem shaky or unstable.

  5. After they are seated, fasten any safety belts or restraints on the wheelchair to ensure the client's safety during the evacuation.

  6. Release the brakes on the wheelchair and start moving towards the emergency exit. Follow the evacuation signs and instructions.

  7. Once you reach the emergency evacuation area, make sure the client is safe and comfortable. Report to the fire warden or other responsible person that your client has been successfully evacuated.

  8. During the process, be aware of any manual handling hazards such as wet floors, obstacles in the path, etc. Report these hazards using the workplace templates.

  9. Be prepared to answer any questions about the process from the client, fire warden, or any other person.

Remember, the key is to remain calm and supportive throughout the process. The client's safety is the top priority.
