  2. Spongy Bone Tissue: Also known as cancellous or trabecular bone, this type of bone tissue is lighter and less dense than compact bone. It is found at the ends of long bones, as well as in the pelvic bones, ribs, skull, and the vertebrae in the spinal column. Spongy bone tissue makes up about 20% of the adult skeleton. Its porous, honeycomb-like structure makes it ideal for metabolically active tissues like bone marrow.
