Question
Give a test to show that a solution contains iodide ions. (3) test ......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... .................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... .................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... .................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... result .................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... .................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... .................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... ....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
Solution
Test:
- Take a small sample of the solution in a test tube.
- Add a few drops of nitric acid to the solution. This is to remove any other ions that may interfere with the test.
- Add a few drops of silver nitrate solution to the test tube.
Result:
If the solution contains iodide ions, a yellow precipitate of silver iodide will form. If no yellow precipitate forms, the solution does not contain iodide ions.
