Hello everyone. Currently, I write for my Bible study class and when I'm writing in my journal. I'm very good at expressing myself verbally, but when it comes to social media, it's hard for me because I prefer to communicate face to face so I can respond to the feedback and body language. I put my personality in everything I do, so I guess that includes writing as well. When I write with my family and friends, I use casual language, slang, and emojis. When writing for school essays or employment resumes, I use formal language, correct punctuation, and proper grammar. When I'm preparing for my motivational speech, my words are more encouraging, heartening, and confident. I might change the way I write or choose different words depending on who I am writing for because different audiences have different levels of knowledge and understanding. Many people prefer verbal as opposed to written communication. Changing the way one speaks or writes to people is a certainty. To add, you mention using tone. Can you think of a time that someone's tone was disagreeable to you? How did you react?

Question 1What do we mean by saying that all writing is communicative?

The ability to express yourself non verbally in an electronic setting is important because it gives you an opportunity for a more effective and clear approach for communication. You can use facial expressions, body language, and your voice tone to communicate non verbally to understand other’s messages and they understand yours.  Some ways that I express my emotion through email or text would be using emojis. Or different punctuations like periods (…) or exclamation points for excitement or attention (!) or if I want answers or don’t understand something I use (?) questions marks. I also use capitals when trying to let someone know what I’m saying is important and needs to be understood.

Nonverbal communication involves conveying information without using words. The ability to express yourself non-verbally in an electronic setting is important because the person you are messaging should know the situation. For example, if it is an emergency you would want to know like having a kid you would want those exclamation marks.  Also, it can include using facial expressions or hand gestures to emphasize a specific point or utilizing eye contact, physical proximity, and other nonverbal cues to effectively communicate a message. Some expressions I use over text are emojis and in emails I would use exclamation marks and use words like urgent and others.
