Solution

The pathway taken by sperm before ejaculation involves several steps:

  1. Spermatogenesis: This is the process where sperm is produced in the seminiferous tubules of the testes. The sperm then move to the epididymis where they mature and are stored.

  2. During sexual arousal, the mature sperm are transported from the epididymis via the vas deferens, a long tube that leads from each testicle into the body.

  3. The vas deferens carries the sperm to the prostate gland. Along the way, it is joined by the seminal vesicle which adds seminal fluid to nourish the sperm.

  4. In the prostate gland, more fluids are added to the sperm to create semen. The prostate gland also helps to propel the semen into the urethra.

  5. The semen, which contains the sperm, is then ejaculated out of the body through the urethra, which runs through the penis. This process is known as ejaculation.

  6. The sperm then travel through the female reproductive tract during sexual intercourse with the aim of fertilizing an egg to create a new life.
