The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is a set of guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India for political parties and candidates to religiously abide by, during elections mainly with respect to speeches, polling day, polling booths, portfolios, election manifestos, processions and general conduct. Here are some of the measures included in the Model Code of Conduct:

No party or candidate can indulge in any activity which may aggravate existing differences or create mutual hatred or cause tension between different castes and communities, religious or linguistic.

Criticism of other political parties must be confined to their policies and programs, past record and work. Parties and candidates should refrain from criticism of all aspects of private life, not connected with the public activities of the leaders or workers of other parties.

The right to criticize, to protest and to combat the government's actions and omissions which are considered harmful to the national good or against public interest is recognized as a fundamental right of opposition. However, such rights shall be confined within the reasonable limits and should be consistent with the provisions of the existing laws.

All parties and candidates must respect and adhere to the impartial role of the Election Commission of India as the supreme body responsible for free and fair elections.

The political parties or candidates shall refrain from serving or distributing liquor on polling day and during the forty-eight hours preceding it.

The party or candidate shall ensure that their supporters do not create obstructions or disorder in meetings and processions organized by other parties.

No party or candidate shall issue an advertisement at the cost of public exchequer.

Parties and candidates should ensure that their supporters do not indulge in acts of violence and there are no conflicts, riots or tensions during the election process.

The party or candidate shall not indulge in any activity which may cause unnecessary inconvenience to the voters.

No party or candidate shall make use of places of worship for election propaganda.
