Solution

The Modern Language Association (MLA) citation style is primarily used in the humanities, particularly in writing on language and literature. It has a few distinguishing features:

  1. Author-Page Citation Method: In-text citations in the MLA style are usually made with an author-page method, which means the author's last name and the page number from which the quotation or paraphrase is taken must appear in the text.

  2. Alphabetical Order: In the Works Cited (bibliography) page, entries are listed in alphabetical order by the author's last name. If there is no author, the title of the work is used.

  3. Title Capitalization: In the Works Cited page, the title of the source is in title case. This means that the first letter of each major word is capitalized.

  4. Italics and Quotation Marks: Book and periodical titles are italicized. Article and chapter titles, as well as titles of shorter works, are placed in quotation marks.

  5. Medium of Publication: The medium of publication must be listed in each Works Cited entry. Common examples include Print, Web, DVD, and so on.

  6. No URLs: In general, URLs are not included in the Works Cited page unless the reader probably cannot locate the source without it or if your instructor requires it.

  7. Use of "et al": When a source has three or more authors, only the first one shown in the source is normally given. It is followed by "et al."

These are some of the distinguishing features of the MLA citation style.
