Solution

  1. The current educational system can both preserve and destroy Native culture. It can preserve culture by incorporating Native languages, histories, and traditions into the curriculum. However, it can also destroy culture by prioritizing Western knowledge and values, and by failing to provide culturally relevant education. A behavior analyst can avoid historical mistakes by educating themselves about Native cultures and histories, by respecting cultural differences, and by involving Native communities in decision-making processes.

  2. To prepare myself to be culturally aware, I will educate myself about different cultures, their histories, and their values. I will also seek out opportunities to interact with people from different cultures and to learn from their experiences. The evaluation procedures I will employ include self-reflection, seeking feedback from others, and continually updating my knowledge and understanding.

  3. To attract Native Americans to behavior analysis, we can increase representation of Native Americans in the field, provide scholarships and other financial incentives, and make the field more relevant to Native American communities by addressing their specific needs and concerns.

  4. Specific services can be provided to urban populations by understanding their unique needs and challenges, such as lack of access to resources, high levels of stress, and exposure to violence. Services can include mental health support, educational support, and community development programs.
