Solution

From the given information, we know that:

  1. A did not get the first rank.
  2. B did not get the second rank.
  3. C did not get the third rank.
  4. D did not get the fourth rank.
  5. Neither A nor D were among the first 2.

From point 5, we know that the first two ranks must be secured by B and C. But from point 2, we know that B did not get the second rank, so B must be the first and C must be the second.

Since C did not get the third rank (from point 3) and A and D are left, but D did not get the fourth rank (from point 4), A must be the third and D must be the fourth.

So, A secured the third rank.
