Disco is a dance form as well as music style. The term comes from the French word “discotheque” which means a library of phonographic records. Disco originated in the 1960s as a fusion or mix of different forms in the U.S. The first performers were African Americans and then Latin Americans. Hence, disco elements were funk, soul, pop, and salsa. Disco’s popularity crossed many boundaries.
