Solution

i. Chain Length and Viscosity: The viscosity of a polymeric material is directly related to its chain length. As the chain length (or molecular weight) increases, the viscosity of the polymer also increases. This is because longer chains have more points of entanglement and thus, more resistance to flow. Therefore, polymers with longer chains are more viscous than those with shorter chains.

ii. Crystallinity and Tensile Strength: The tensile strength of a polymer is also directly related to its degree of crystallinity. Crystalline regions in a polymer are ordered and packed closely together, which makes them stronger and more resistant to deformation. Therefore, polymers with a higher degree of crystallinity have higher tensile strength. However, it's important to note that too much crystallinity can make the polymer brittle.

iii. Chain Structure and Density: The density of a polymer is influenced by its chain structure. Linear polymers pack closely together, leading to higher density. On the other hand, branched polymers cannot pack as closely due to the branches, resulting in lower density. Furthermore, cross-linked polymers have even lower density because the cross-links create additional space in the structure. Therefore, the density of a polymer can be manipulated by altering its chain structure.
