Solution

(a) The blood pressure is high in the arteries and low in the veins due to the pumping action of the heart. When the heart contracts, it pushes blood into the arteries under high pressure. This is known as systolic pressure. The veins, on the other hand, carry blood back to the heart under much lower pressure. This is because the blood has already delivered its oxygen and nutrients and is returning to the heart to be re-oxygenated and re-nourished.

(b) The major cause of high blood pressure, or hypertension, can be a combination of factors such as genetics, age, diet, physical inactivity, excessive salt intake, obesity, alcohol consumption, stress, and certain medical conditions like kidney disease.

(c) If a person has very high blood pressure, it can lead to serious health problems. High blood pressure can damage the arteries, which can lead to heart disease and stroke. It can also cause damage to the kidneys and other organs, and can lead to heart failure. In extreme cases, it can cause a heart attack or stroke, which can be fatal.
