Solution

The administrative tool that can change this default behavior is option D: Windows Firewall. Here are the steps to do it:

  1. Open the Start menu and type "Windows Firewall" into the search bar, then select it from the list of results.

  2. In the left pane, click on "Advanced settings".

  3. In the left pane of the "Windows Firewall with Advanced Security" window, click on "Inbound Rules".

  4. In the right pane, click on "New Rule".

  5. In the "Rule Type" window, select "Custom" and then click "Next".

  6. In the "Program" window, select "All programs" and then click "Next".

  7. In the "Protocol and Ports" window, select "ICMPv4" in the "Protocol type" dropdown menu and then click "Next".

  8. In the "Scope" window, select "Any IP address" in both "Which local IP addresses does this rule apply to?" and "Which remote IP addresses does this rule apply to?" sections, then click "Next".

  9. In the "Action" window, select "Allow the connection" and then click "Next".

  10. In the "Profile" window, check all options (Domain, Private, Public) and then click "Next".

  11. In the "Name" window, give the rule a name (for example, "ICMP Allow incoming V4 echo request"), and then click "Finish".

Now, the Windows computer should be able to be pinged.
