Solution

The Gluteus Maximus is one of the strongest muscles in the human body. It is located in the buttocks region.

  1. Attachments of the Gluteus Maximus:

    • Origin: The Gluteus Maximus originates from several areas including the posterior gluteal line of the inner upper ilium, a region of the bone on the lower side of the pelvis. It also originates from the rough area of bone just above and behind it including the posterior surface of the lower part of the sacrum, the side of the coccyx, the aponeurosis of the erector spinae (muscles and tendons on the lower back), the sacrotuberous ligament, and the fascia covering the gluteus medius (another muscle in the buttocks region).
  2. Insertions of the Gluteus Maximus:

    • Insertion: The Gluteus Maximus inserts into the iliotibial band (a tough group of fibers that run along the outside of the thigh) and the gluteal tuberosity on the femur (the large bone in the upper part of the leg).

In simple terms, the Gluteus Maximus muscle starts from the hip bone, sacrum, and tailbone, and attaches to the thigh bone and iliotibial band.
