Solution

  1. Energy Production: The primary function of respiration in the human body is to produce energy. During respiration, glucose (a type of sugar) in our body combines with oxygen to create energy in the form of ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate). This energy is then used for various bodily functions such as movement, growth, repair, and maintaining body temperature.

  2. Elimination of Waste Products: Respiration also helps in the elimination of waste products from the body. When glucose combines with oxygen, carbon dioxide and water are produced as by-products. Carbon dioxide is a waste product and is removed from the body when we exhale.

  3. Oxygen Supply: Respiration is the process through which oxygen is taken into the body. Oxygen is vital for the survival of cells in our body. It is used in the process of cellular respiration to produce energy. Without oxygen, cells would not be able to function properly and the body would eventually fail.
