In the video for this chapter, Preschool: Health and Nutrition, we watch as a preschool teacher provides a fun learning activity for her students. The activity is designed to teach the children how to properly brush and floss their teeth, but also helps teach them to distinguish between foods that are healthy and good for our teeth, and those that run a higher risk of tooth decay. While you watch the video, take note of the ways the teacher tries to make tooth care a fun activity, and not just a chore that has to be completed. Think about your own experience as child learning to brush your teeth. Was there someone who helped make it a fun experience? Why is teaching good oral care important for young children? What other areas of development might this instruction affect?
