Timeline of the development of Volleyball:

• 1895: Volleyball was invented by William G. Morgan in Holyoke, Massachusetts, USA.
• 1900: The first ball specifically designed for Volleyball was created.
• 1916: The skill and rules of the game were introduced in the Philippines.
• 1922: The first national championship was held in the USA.
• 1947: The Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) was founded.
• 1964: Volleyball was included in the Olympic Games.

Facilities and Equipment:

• Court: The court is 18m long and 9m wide, divided into two 9m x 9m halves by a one-meter wide net.
• Net: For men's competition, the net is 2.43m high. For women's competition, it's 2.24m high.
• Ball: The ball weighs between 260-280g with a circumference of 65-67cm.

Basic Skills:

• Serving: This is the act of putting the ball into play.
• Passing: This involves accurately directing the ball to your teammate or over the net.
• Setting: This is an overhead pass used to change the direction of the dig.
• Attacking: This involves jumping and hitting the ball to the opponent's court.
• Blocking: This is a defensive play to stop the opponent's attack.
• Digging: This is a defensive skill to prevent the ball from hitting the court after an attack.

Rules and Regulations:

• Each team consists of six players.
• A player is not allowed to hit the ball twice in succession.
• The ball may be played off the net during a volley and on a serve.
• A ball hitting a boundary line is in.
• It is legal to contact the ball with any part of a player’s body.
• It is illegal to catch, hold or throw the ball.
• A player cannot block or attack a serve from on or inside the 10-foot line.
• After the serve, front-line players may switch positions at the net.
