  2. He was originally named Abram but God changed his name to Abraham, which means "father of many".
  3. Abraham was born in Ur of the Chaldeans, which is modern-day Iraq.
  4. He was married to Sarah and had two sons, Isaac and Ishmael.
  5. Abraham is known for his faith in God, even being willing to sacrifice his son Isaac when God commanded it.

Part 2. Bible Verses

  • The promises of God to Abraham in Genesis 12: 1-3 and Genesis 26: 4 include making him a great nation, blessing him, making his name great, blessing those who bless him, cursing those who curse him, and through him, all families of the earth will be blessed.
  • If people break a promise, it leads to consequences. In Genesis 3, when Adam and Eve broke God's command, it led to the fall of man, introducing sin and death into the world.
  • A covenant is a solemn agreement between two parties, often involving promises and obligations. The covenant between God and Abraham involved God promising to make Abraham a great nation and Abraham promising to follow God and instruct his descendants to do the same.

Part 3. Modern-day Covenant

  • A modern-day covenant I have witnessed is the marriage covenant. This covenant is between two individuals who promise to love, honor, and cherish each other for the rest of their lives.
  • My own covenant experience involves my commitment to my profession. I have made a promise to uphold the standards and ethics of my profession and to serve my clients to the best of my ability.
