Harshavardhan, also known as Harsha, was an Indian emperor who ruled North India from 606 to 647 CE. He was a member of the Vardhana dynasty; and was the son of Prabhakarvardhana who defeated the Alchon Huna invaders, and the younger brother of Rajyavardhana, a king of Thanesar, present-day Haryana.
Harsha was born in 590 CE, according to the Chinese traveler Xuanzang. However, the exact date of his birth is not known. He ascended the throne at the age of 16 after the murder of his brother Rajyavard
