Impact of technology in nursing practice.

There are many issues that the nursing profession is currently facing including practice barriers that prevent nurses from utilizing their full set of skills and knowledge (National Academies, 2015). A report from the National Academies (2015) shares that “States, federal agencies, and health care organizations should remove scope of practice barriers that hinder nurses from practicing to the full extent of their education and training,…” Considering the barriers that currently exist, or might exit in the future, think of one barrier in particular and please respond to the following prompts:How you can make an impact on this issue in your workplace or future workplace. What challenges will this present and what steps you will take, and the outcome you hope to achieve?What changes to the profession, which would remove barriers, would you like to see on a local level, in your workplace, or on a regional or national level?What is currently being done about this, according to the literature, or according to your organization?

The scope and standards of practice guide the nursing profession in competence and performance expectations. The scope of practice for nursing defines the activities that a person licensed as a nurse is permitted to perform while the standards of practice delineate performance expectations for all registered nurses. Review Chapter 3, "The Nursing Workforce," of The Future of Nursing 2020-2030: Charting a Path to Achieve Health Equity, located in the Topic 2 Resources, and compare the scope of practice and differentiated practice competencies of licensed practical nurses (LPNs), registered nurses (RNs), and advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs). Review "Scope of Nursing Practice" from Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice, located in the Topic 2 Resources. Standard 12 of the standards of practice describes the nurse's role related to education. Explain the role of professional development (life-long learning) in the context of this standard.
