It went well. I was assessing her reading comprehension skills. Zhaohan could read well, but her comprehension of certain words needs improvement for the IELTS. We can focus on improving this weakness. A key point for improvement rests on reading through a whole passage or paragraph without stopping on unknown or unfamiliar words. This will help Zhaohan better understand the wider meaning than specific words. She struggled with communication due to her limited vocabulary, but after assessing her I will use more simple language. Jiaqi struggles with grammatical accuracy and also struggles with listening. Her speaking is very basic, as she mainly answers in single words or very short phrases. I think this is not because of lack of ability, but rather because she does not wish to engage fully, though I have noticed this improving. Elsa struggles with more technical English vocabulary and her comprehension is sometimes lacking, even when she is able to read something quite easily. She should watch English films and TV and listen to English music to familiarise herself with the language. If there are easy to read English books she is interested in reading these would also help a lot.
