Solution

Q2a. Let's take the example of an employee named John in a company. John is a hardworking individual who puts in a lot of effort into his job. He values fairness and believes that his efforts should be rewarded appropriately. However, he has noticed that despite his hard work, his rewards (salary, benefits, recognition) are not as high as some of his colleagues who put in the same or even less effort. This has led to feelings of dissatisfaction and demotivation.

Q2b. John's situation aligns closely with the Equity Theory of motivation. According to this theory, individuals are motivated by fairness and will compare their input-outcome ratio with that of others. In John's case, his inputs (effort, time, skills) are high but his outcomes (salary, benefits, recognition) are not as high as his colleagues. This perceived inequity is causing John to feel demotivated. According to the Equity Theory, John might respond to this inequity by reducing his effort, asking for a raise, or even leaving the company.
