Double circulation is a process in the human cardiovascular system where the blood passes through the heart twice during one complete cycle. This process is divided into two parts: systemic circulation and pulmonary circulation.

1. Systemic Circulation:

   • This is the part of the circulation where oxygen-rich blood is pumped from the left side of the heart to the rest of the body.
   • The oxygenated blood from the left ventricle is carried by the aorta to all parts of the body, including the vital organs and extremities.
   • As the blood travels through the body, it delivers oxygen to the cells and picks up carbon dioxide and other waste products.
   • This deoxygenated blood then returns to the right side of the heart via the superior and inferior vena cava.

2. Pulmonary Circulation:

   • This is the part of the circulation where deoxygenated blood is pumped from the right side of the heart to the lungs.
   • The deoxygenated blood from the right ventricle is carried by the pulmonary artery to the lungs.
   • In the lungs, the blood releases carbon dioxide (a waste product) and picks up oxygen during the process of respiration.
   • This newly oxygenated blood then returns to the left side of the heart via the pulmonary veins, ready to start the systemic circulation again.

This process is called double circulation because the blood passes through the heart twice: once for pulmonary circulation (lung to heart) and once for systemic circulation (heart to body). This efficient system allows for the separate circulation of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood, which is essential for maintaining the body's metabolic needs.
