As part of the Capstone Novel Project, the Novel Essay is the second step.  Students reread a favorite novel or non-fiction book and kept a reading journal of at least 8 quotes with a short summary as to each of the quote's significance.  Using only the 8 quotes and a reflection about how rereading the work changed their perception of a character, theme, or event, they wrote a 1 1/2 to 2 page essay discussing their interpretations, analysis and ruminations.  No research was allowed.
