Solution

To find the amount of copper in the new alloy, we first need to determine the amount of copper in each of the original alloys.

  1. Alloy A: Alloy A is 40 kg and it has lead and copper in the ratio 3:2. This means that out of every 5 parts of the alloy, 3 parts are lead and 2 parts are copper. So, the amount of copper in Alloy A = (2/5) * 40 kg = 16 kg

  2. Alloy B: Alloy B is 100 kg and it has copper and tin in the ratio 1:3. This means that out of every 4 parts of the alloy, 1 part is copper and 3 parts are tin. So, the amount of copper in Alloy B = (1/4) * 100 kg = 25 kg

Now, to find the total amount of copper in the new alloy, we simply add the amount of copper in Alloy A and Alloy B.

Total amount of copper = Amount of copper in Alloy A + Amount of copper in Alloy B = 16 kg + 25 kg = 41 kg

So, the amount of copper in the new alloy is 41 kg.
