L plays tennis and is taller than H and K. The tallest one of them is a basketball player. J, who is the shortest, plays volleyball. K and I don’t play basketball. L is positioned between H and I in order of height and I is a football player.

Solution

From the information given, we can deduce the following:

  1. L plays tennis and is taller than H and K. This means L cannot be the shortest or the second shortest.

  2. The tallest one of them is a basketball player. Since L is not the tallest (because L is taller than H and K but there is at least one person taller than L), the basketball player can't be L, H or K. Also, K and I don’t play basketball. So, the basketball player can only be M.

  3. J, who is the shortest, plays volleyball. So, J can't be H, K or L because these three are taller than J.

  4. L is positioned between H and I in order of height. This means I is taller than L. But since the tallest is M, I can't be the tallest. So, I is the second tallest. And since L is taller than H and K, H and K are the fourth and fifth tallest (in some order) and L is the third tallest.

  5. I is a football player. So, the football player can't be H, J, K, L or M.

So, the final arrangement is:

  • M is the tallest and plays basketball.
  • I is the second tallest and plays football.
  • L is the third tallest and plays tennis.
  • H is either the fourth or fifth tallest and plays either cricket or badminton.
  • K is either the fourth or fifth tallest and plays either cricket or badminton.
  • J is the shortest and plays volleyball.
